In 1964, the E-Type received several important upgrades including the 4.2 liter version of the famous XK engine. The newer model produced 255 hp at 5400 rpm over 5500. The cooling system was redesigned to maintain the overall engine size. Exterior 4.2 is characterized by single-sided cast exhaust pipes. Other improvements include a new alternator / generator and an electric cooling fan for the radiator. The interior also reworked the seats and removed the aluminum panels in the center console, radio, alternative gear ratios, chrome wires, tinted glass and white-wall tires.
